Elena Bartolomé

Full Professor at EUSS School of Engineering (UAB) since 2006. "Research Fellow" at the Institute of Material Sciences of Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC).

I obtained my Thesis at the Low temperature Division of the University of Twente (The Netherlands) in 2002. Later I moved to Barcelona, where I made two post-doctoral stays between 2002-2006 at the Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC, I3P-grant) and the Electromagnetism Group at the University Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB, “Juan de la Cierva”). In 2006 I obtained a private Full Professor position at EUSS School of Engineering, associated to UAB, where I am Head of EUSS Research Group. In the past years, I have combined teaching with research, carried out in external institutions.

Working in collaboration with SUMAN Superconductivity Group at ICMAB-CSIC between 2006-2018, I investigated the magnetic properties of YBCO superconducting thin-films prepared by the chemical route for power applications, in particular vortex pinning in YBCO layers with nanostructured defects, using macroscopic magnetometry techniques and XMCD.

Since 2012, my research interest turned to Molecular Magnetism. Working in collaboration with the Institute of Nanoscience and Materials of Aragon (INMA-CSIC) in Zaragoza, we have investigated the magnetic properties and spin relaxation of multifunctional 4f and 3d Single-Molecule Magnets (SMMs), magnetism of molecules on surfaces, and 2D and 3D metal-organic frameworks, with potential interest for Quantum Technologies. My experimental expertise includes the magnetic characterization of materials down to mK, specific heat, luminescence, and Synchrotron radiation spectroscopies (XMCD) techniques, among others.

I am author of 100 publications, h=20 (Google Scholar). I received the Full Professor Accreditation (Catedrático) from AQU in 2020, and I3-Certificate from AEI in 2021. In November 2022 I obtained a Tenure Scientist position at ICMAB (CSIC), and I am awaiting formal announcement to join ICMAB in the coming months.

PhD in Applied Physics in 2002 at the University of Twente, The Netherlands
