Gloria Subias

Tenured Scientist of CSIC, Gloria Subías received her PhD in Physics in 2000 at the University of Zaragoza.

Between 2000 and 2003 she did a post-doctoral stay at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility, ESRF, in Grenoble (France) as researcher at the x-ray absorption spectroscopy beam line. In 2003, she returned to the Instituto de Ciencia de Materiales de Aragón (ICMA) as researcher with a "Ramon y Cajal” fellowship and since 2008, she was appointed tenure scientist and works at the Instituto de Nanociencia y Materiales de Aragón (INMA), joint center of CSIC and University of Zaragoza.

My research lines cover the study of strongly correlated transition-metal complex oxides with unique physical properties such as giant magnetoresistance, metal-insulator transitions associated with coupled charge-orbital-spin orders and recently, multiferroicity. In particular, my research is specialized in the use of large scale facilities with special relevance in synchrotron radiation techniques. The objective is to characterize the crystallographic and magnetic structure of these materials in correlation with their local geometric and electronic structure and local spin of the transition-metals through a wide range of different techniques: high-resolution x-ray diffraction; x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XANES and EXAFS); x-ray emission (XES and RIXS), x-ray magnetic circular dichroism and resonant x-ray scattering (RXS), a technique that I developed during my PhD thesis in our research group in Zaragoza, who is nowadays a reference in this technique both in Spain and internationally.

I have published 141 papers of which more than 75% are in Q1; h-index=29; Total citations over 3300 according to SCOPUS. I have been co-author of a book chapter (X-ray Absorption and X-ray Emission Spectroscopy: Theory and Applications). I participated in 14 research projects, being principal investigator in three of them, the last one involving also coordinator tasks. I participated in more than 90 projects at international synchrotron radiation facilities (ESRF, Soleil, Diamond, Elettra, BESSY II, ALBA and Spring-8). I presented contributions in more than 50 national and international conferences (11 invited lectures) and I was chair of the AUSE congress and ALBA User’s meeting (Barcelona, 2019, 2022). I have supervised one PhD thesis. I have also been in charge of several management and research evaluation tasks: From 2011 to 2022, I was member of the Management Committee of the Spanish Synchrotron Radiation User Association (AUSE), the last five years as President. I was member of the Management Committee of the European action COST MP1306 (2014-2018). I was also appointed as member of the Review Committee C04 for evaluation of proposals and the BM23/ID24 beamline review panel at the European ESRF synchrotron (2015-2020) and at present, I am part of the Elettra synchrotron Review panel “Hard Condensed Matter: Structures” and the Review Committee C01 for evaluation of proposals at ESRF. I have been evaluator of national projects (AEI) and international projects (MIUR – Italy). Recently, I become member of the IUCr CXAS committee.
