Jorge Lobo Checa

Tenured Scientist of CSIC- Jorge Lobo-Checa received his PhD in 2004 from the Universidad Autónoma of Madrid.

Between 2004 and 2009 he did two post-doctoral stays in Switzerland, the first at the Swiss Light Source (Paul Scherrer institute) and the second at the University of Basel. He returned to Spain as a Ramón y Cajal Fellow at the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2) located in the Universidad Autonoma Campus. From 2012 he was appointed Tenured Scientist at the CSIC and worked at the Materials Physic Center in San Sebastian and moved to his final destination at INMA since 2015.

My research activity focuses on the study of the electronic and chemical structure of thin organic molecular layers on metal or semiconductor substrates surfaces both flat and nanostructured. Currently I am responsible of a q-plus Omicron LT-STM/AFM instrument at the Laboratorio de Microscopías Avanzadas (LMA, Univ. of Zaragoza).

I have hands-on expertise in the following experimental techniques that operate in Ultra-high-vacuum (UHV): Low temperature scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy (STM/STS), Angle Resolved Ultraviolet Photoemission Spectroscopy (ARUPS) with and without Spin-resolution; X-ray photoemission (XPS), X-ray absorption (XAS) and X-ray Magnetic Dichroism (XMCD). I have participated in 75 beamtimes of synchrotron radiation where in 22 I was PI. Synchrotrons visited: SLS (Switzerland); DESY, BESSY(Germany); LURE, Soleil, ESRF (France); ELETTRA (Italy); SRC, NSLS (USA); MaxLab (Sweden); HiSOR (Japan); ALBA (Spain).

I have published 62 articles (excl. 5 Proceedings) of which 55 are in Q1 (Science = 2, Rev. Mod. Phys. = 1, ACSnano = 5, PRL = 9, New Journal of Physics = 5, etc.) and 30 on the first decile (Average impact index per article 7.58). Of these I am last author and/or corresponding in 12 out of 20 in last 6 years. h-Index: 21 (WoS); Total citations: over 1600 according to WoS. I am also- co-author of a book chapter (Handbook of Surface Science).

I have been PI in 4 projects (one of them as European Coordinator) and have supervised 2 complete PhD thesis and 4 Master thesis. I have been evaluator of national projects (Juan de la Cierva and AEI) and international projects (Italy, Argentina, Switzerland, Poland); evaluator of CVs of candidates for technical positions, PhD and Post-docs. Member of doctoral and master's theses examiner boards. I Participated in scientific reports and advice for the ALBA beamlines.
