Vera Cuartero

Associate Professor within the Material Science Department at the University of Zaragoza since 2021.

My academic journey includes earning a Ph.D. at the Instituto de Ciencia de Materiales de Aragón (now INMA – Instituto de Nanociencia y Materiales de Aragón). Following the completion of my doctorate, I continued my research as a postdoctoral fellow at esteemed synchrotron radiation facilities.

During this postdoctoral tenure, I worked at ALBA Synchrotron in Barcelona (CLAESS beamline) and the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) in Grenoble, France, on two distinct beamlines, ID24 and BM23. My expertise lies in employing X-ray absorption spectroscopies to investigate various materials, especially under extreme conditions such as low temperatures, magnetic fields, or pressure.

My research interests are concentrated on multiferroic materials, and more recently, I have delved into the study of materials exhibiting a caloric response under pressure, specifically exploring the realm of barocalorics. This trajectory in my academic and research pursuits reflects my commitment to advancing our understanding of material properties, particularly their behaviors in challenging environments.
